Profile
Katrina Hanjimichael, whose
surname is Greek Cypriot origin, lives in Camden and has been quilting
for 14 years. She has also been a guild member for the past 3 years.
Her mother is a keen quilter and started Katrina off on her successful
quilting path. She also remembers her grandmother constantly sewing,
even after a stroke on her path to recovery. Like so many, Katrina
started with tapestry and cross stitch before attempting quilting.
She now belongs to a local Camden group and they manage to collect $10,000
a year for charity. She now designs her own quilts and teaches in
Camden, Maryellen and Miranda.
Katrina studied Archeology
and is interested in Ancient Art. She once spent 3 months on a dig
in Jordan, which, she says, was very exciting as they discovered the largest
bronze age urn found to date. She has been married for 20 years and
has 2 sons. Her husband promoted her work by taking it to the local
patchwork shop, hereafter Katrina was asked to teach there. She showed
us an array of beautiful pieced and appliquéd quilts, some of which
have been prize winners. A lovely morning was had by all. |
